چکیده

The well-known fossiliferous and lithologically variable Middle Devonian Shaly-Calcareous Skały Formation in the Łysogóry Region (northern part of Holy Cross Mountains, central Poland) was studied for first time terms elemental geochemistry, carbon isotope stratigraphy limestone microfacies. Three Lower to Givetian marly-limestone successions, exposed at Miłoszów, represent middle outer facies belts vast carbonate ramp, characterized by very rich epifaunal infaunal benthic life muddy, oxic, eutrophic, photic zone habitats. Brachiopods occasionally corals (in mesophotic association), erect branching bryozoans, tiny crinoids played a leading role among flourishing sessile suspension-feeders. High-energy storm events, possibly even tsunami, during brief Early strengthened prolific ooze delivery system from shallow ramp areas, including restricted back-ramp lagoons variety organic buildups, populated stromatoporoids. ecologically mixed skeletal grain association is occurrence typical lagoonal biota, calcispheres amphiporoids. effective factory declined stepwise regionally because an intermittent progradation deltaic Świętomarz Beds, linked with climate cooling activation block movements. regional crisis resulted demise diverse life, calcified microbiota. higher succession, deposited between important Kačák Taghanic bioevents, noticeable background carbon-isotope pattern matter signatures, baseline δ 13 C carb values 1‰ 2‰. microfacies chemostratigraphic data confirm that least lower pumilio bioevent not recorded Region.

Early evolution of the lungfish pectoral-fin endoskeleton: evidence from the Middle Devonian (Givetian) Pentlandia macroptera

*Correspondence: Zerina Johanson, Department of Earth Sciences, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW75BD, UK e-mail: [email protected] As the closest living relatives of tetrapods, lungfishes are frequently used as extant models for exploring the fin-to-limb transition. These studies have generally given little consideration to fossil taxa. This is because even though lungfish fi...

Phenylnaphthalenes and polyphenyls in Palaeozoic source rocks of the Holy Cross Mountains, Poland

Source rocks from a marine depositional setting from Palaeozoic formations in the Holy Cross Mountains region (Midlands, Poland) were analysed for aromatics using capillary gas chromatography±mass spectrometry (GC±MS). The occurrence of two novel series of aromatic hydrocarbons in these sediments, namely phenyl derivatives of fused ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PhPAH) and polyphenyls (...

Tabulate Corals after the Frasnian/Famennian Crisis: A Unique Fauna from the Holy Cross Mountains, Poland

Famennian tabulate corals were very rare worldwide, and their biodiversity was relatively low. Here we report a unique tabulate fauna from the mid- and late Famennian of the western part of the Holy Cross Mountains (Kowala and Ostrówka), Poland. We describe eight species (four of them new, namely ?Michelinia vinni sp. nov., Thamnoptychia mistiaeni sp. nov., Syringopora kowalensis sp. nov. and S...

A new genus of lungfish from the Givetian (Middle Devonian) of central Australia

A new Dipterus−like lungfish, Harajicadipterus youngi, is described from the Givetian (Middle Devonian) Harajica Sand− stone Member of central Australia. The material is comprised of five specimens representing the skull roof, orbital bones, tooth plates, operculo−gular bones, a partial pectoral girdle, centra and scales. Harajicadipterus can be distinguished from other dipnoans by its long pos...
